Figures compiled by the Office of the Panama Comptroller General indicate that imports through the Colon Free Zone (ZLC) totaled $1,529 million in January and February of this year, 23% more than in the first two months of 2016, while re-exports exceeded $1.590 million, an increase of almost 24% compared to the same period in 2016.
Prensa.com reports that "...Among the items whose re-exports improved were electronics (3%), autoparts (8%) and "others", which is a group different products that do not mark more than 1% individually, they improved by 60%."
"... In the view of Surz Pierpoint, manager of the ZLC, the increase in the "other" sector reveals that, given the decline in some key sectors such as clothing (-12%) or spirits (-10%), entrepreneurs have diversified their business portfolios".
